12 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movie Remakes Ever
4. Kong: Skull Island
When Kings of Summer helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts was
announced as the director for an upcoming King Kong instalment, the indie kid
probably didn’t seem like the most obvious choice for the action-packed reboot.
But as his storied personal life proves (check out GQ’s fascinating into his
near fatal assault for more), the director is no stranger to the wild side of
life.
And 2017’s Kong Skull Island did an incredible job of showcasing the director’s more un-restrained side, eschewing the typical melodrama of the story in favour of an intense and unrelenting thrill ride. With an eclectic cast including Brie Larson and John C Reilly and a touch of humour to lighten its intense action sequences, Skull Island may have little in common with the flicks it is ostensibly remaking but it serves as an impressive calling card for the now A-list Hollywood director to prove his action chops.
Not that, you know, a handful of kids having a nostalgic summer in the woods wasn’t enough to prove how awesome his action skills were.
