12 Movies With Way Happier Endings Than You'd Ever Expect
8. I, Robot
The sci-fi murder mystery I, Robot somehow came and went with very little memory for how fascinating a film it was. It was one of Will Smith's more serious roles, the action and visual effects do still hold up and it had a genuinely interesting plot- save for a few cliches.
The proto-dystopian noir tells the story of a robot servant suspected of killing their creator, and Will Smith (playing Spooner) is the anti-robot cop assigned to investigate the killing. What unfolds is a hilarious and eerie story of technology becoming self aware and turning on anyone with a fleshy centre.
Aided by the one good robot, Sonny; Spooner takes his fight to main villain and stops the machines from killing more humans. As the robots are about to slay the humans, the anti-virus changes their personalities and they become passive once again.
The film should have ended with Sonny being deactivated/switched off (killed basically) but instead he and Spooner come to a mutual understanding and the former murdering robot is allowed to lead his other robots to a more peaceful and brave new world. All the relatively bad humans and robots have been killed, and the future looks a lot brighter.
