12 Movies You Wrongly Thought Bombed In 2018

5. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

Goosebumps 2 Haunted House
Columbia Pictures

Budget: $35 million

Box Office: $92 million

The second Goosebumps movie is one of the weirdest and most misguided studio releases of 2018, and though it only ended up grossing barely 60% of its 2015 predecessor (which made $150.2 million worldwide), its significantly lower budget allowed it to remain profitable.

With a price tag roughly half that of the first movie - due to Jack Black being relegated to a cameo and most of the CGI being crammed into the final half-hour - Goosebumps 2's budget multiplier is actually stronger than the first, turning in 2.62x its price tag.

While the movie's sub-$100 million haul might discourage Sony from pursuing a third movie - without Jack Black, anyway - for a rushjob sequel lacking the first film's marquee star, it's honestly almost impressive that it did this well.
