Seen the trailer? Then you probably don't need to see the movie.

Movie trailers give can stir up great publicity for an upcoming film; if edited the right way, they can tease and entice us back into the cinemas to see the full feature.

A good trailer for a film is one that captures enough of the best bits to flaunt picture well enough to get our attention, but not so much that our intuitive brains can work out the plot or decipher all the twists and turns from minute screenshots.

There can be something of an art to trailers; the build-up and momentum that follow a marketing campaign is only as strong as what's put together in a two-minute montage of what producers will allow the editing teams to use.

When we finally get into the cinema seats and what the two-hour feature that was promised to us in the promotional videos, we can sometimes feel underwhelmed or even disappointed. The narrative and tone of a film we were promised in trailers don't quite sync up together and what we get as a finished picture is greatly overshadowed by the hype-train of a well-made trailer.

In this list you'll find films that carried with them an exciting first or second trailer that drew us into the cinemas, but the end results weren't what we expected. Some films were good, others were bad, but the one thing we can probably agree on is their trailers were way more entertaining to watch.

12. SOLO: A Star Wars Story

It's an unpopular opinion, but the Han Solo spin-off isn't the worst film in the Star Wars canon.

The movie didn't have much hope to begin with, what with Star Wars fans rejecting a Han Solo origin story purely on narrative relevance and the fact it didn't feature Harrison Ford as the lead. Coupled with behind-the-scenes conflict between Disney and the Directors, the movie was just a ticking bomb at the box office.

Then the trailers came out. And what we were presented with was a swashbuckling caper with promises of a heist, a bit of romance and a heck of a lot of spaceships flying around. It looked like for a second, SOLO might be fun.

But the movie couldn't help itself. It was overloaded with Easter Eggs and pointless origins that resembled the first Wolverine origin film. Instead of being light and fun, the movie is sadly quite forgetful. While it is definitely one of the more fast-paced Star Wars films, it wasn't at all memorable.

The great score, snappy dialogue and enticing villain just seemed to be extinguished when the film came out. Here's hoping a few lessons were learnt about what movie-makers are trying to sell, verses what they actually delivered.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
