12 Surprisingly Touching Moments In Extremely Macho Movies

8. Die Hard €“ John Asks Al To Apologise To Holly For Him

Die Hard includes scenes of John McClane killing two people with C4 thrown down an elevator shaft, crawling through an air vent, walking barefoot through broken glass and jumping off the exploding roof of a building with only a fire hose to prevent his grisly death. Of course, these heroics are going to leave physical scars that will stay with John forever but it is in this scene that we see where his real pain lies. After fighting through seemingly insurmountable odds, John begins to question whether he will make it out alive and see his wife again. What follows is a heart-wrenching scene as John explains to Al, his one link to the outside world, how he has let his wife down. You can see how much he regrets how he has treated Holly and would give anything to be able to see her again. The surprisingly touching aspect is the amount of remorse John shows in this scene; as he admits to Al that he could have been a better, more supportive husband telling him "She's heard me say a million times that I love her. She never heard me say I'm sorry; and I want you to tell her that Al. I want you to tell her that John says he's sorry." It's one of the only times you see John as vulnerable as this as the direness of his situation really begins to take its toll on him.
