7. Man Of Steel €“ "You Are My Son."

Man Of Steel is so widely known for its exorbitant levels of action that many people seem to forget the quieter moments. Whilst they are certainly in the minority they are definitely there; and this is the best. A young Clark Kent is coming to terms with possibly exposing his identity by saving a busload of kids from drowning, when Jonathan appears to give him a bit of a roasting. Naturally, Clark wants to know about his heritage; so Jonathan proceeds to show him the vessel he arrived in and finally tells him that he is not of this planet. Dylan Sprayberry is great in the scene as he gets across Clark's mixed feelings of confusion and anger at the revelation that Jonathan and Martha are not his real parents. He desperately asks Jonathan "Can't I just go on pretending I'm your son?" and the reply of "You are my son.", delivered perfectly by Costner, is the most touching moment between the two characters as we see how much love Jonathan has for his adopted alien. While many will gripe about the death scene, there's no denying that Costner's Kent was one of the most important aspects of the movie, with many of the most emotionally powerful moments coming courtesy of Jonathan. His deep love for his son is apparent throughout the movie and this scene is the best example of that.
