8. Chris Gets Arrested In The Alternate Ending - Get Out

The Original Plan: The original ending for Jordan Peele's horror-satire ended with Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) being apprehended by the police.

After his arrest, we cut to Chris in jail, catching a visit from TSA pal Rod (LilRel Howery), where it's explained that the Armitage house burned down along with any evidence of their wrongdoing, while Chris seems oddly contented about having stopped their brainwashing, even though he's in jail.

What Happened?: Peele decided that the spate of high-profile shootings of black people leading up to the film's release made society "more woke", and so such an ending would feel a little redundant.

Instead, Peele opted for a bait-and-switch ending, where Rod rescues Chris and his ultimate fate is left ambiguous.

Did It Work?: Absolutely. The original ending would've worked despite being on-the-nose, but the clever subversion of the ending Peele ultimately used is so much smarter and more satisfying.

Considering how fundamentally it would've altered the movie's optics, it was an extremely shrewd call on Peele's part.
