The Original Plan: On the press tour for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, writer-director James Gunn confirmed that he originally had a large role carved out for fan favourite superhero Adam Warlock.

Gunn said, "I wrote an early treatment where I had Adam Warlock as a...big part of the screenplay...And I adored the character. I adored what we had done with him. I think we did something really creative and unique with Adam Warlock."

What Happened?: Gunn continued, "It was one character too many and I didn’t want to lose Mantis and Mantis was more organically part of the movie anyway. So I decided to save him for later."

Instead, Warlock made a kinda-cameo in one of the film's seven-hundred mid-credits scenes, with Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) revealing his cocoon.

Did It Work?: Gunn was totally right here. Vol. 2 already had plenty to juggle, so saving Warlock for a meaty role in Vol. 3 makes all the sense.
