4. Jeff Goldblum Nearly Dropped Out - Thor: Ragnarok

The Original Plan: Though Jeff Goldblum was offered the role of Grandmaster early on in pre-production for Thor: Ragnarok, there was a brief period where the deal fell through for unspecified reasons, and it seemed like the part, which was written specifically for Goldblum, would be performed by another actor.

What Happened?: Whatever the problem, be it scheduling or money (probably money, if we're being totally honest), it was worked out, and Goldblum ended up signing on the dotted line.

Did It Work?: Goldblum did a wonderful job in the role, so yes. It's hard to imagine anyone else bringing quite the same eccentric energy to the part, so it's safe to say that a recast would've substantially changed the mood on Sakaar, and probably not for the better.
