12 Things That Almost Completely Changed 2017’s Biggest Movies
6. Kevin Spacey Originally Played J. Paul Getty - All The Money In The World

The Original Plan: Kevin Spacey was originally cast to play 80-year-old billionaire J. Paul Getty (wearing prosthetic make-up to look two decades older), and up until two months before the movie was due for release, his role was in the can and good to go.
What Happened?: Soon after numerous sexual assault allegations were levelled against Spacey, Ridley Scott made the executive decision to recast Spacey with Christopher Plummer, his original choice for the part before TriStar Pictures insisted he cast a bigger name actor.
To the cost of $10 million, 10 days of reshoots took place in late November, just barely allowing the film to make its December 25th release date.
Did It Work?: On an artistic level? Totally. Had Spacey remained in the part, the film's Christmas release would most certainly have been cancelled, and it's entirely possible it never would've seen the light of day at all.
Though the film is still struggling to make its $50 million budget back, it has been rewarded with three Golden Globe and and one BAFTA nomination, and will likely score an Oscar nod or two.
With Plummer in the role All the Money in the World is a rock solid thriller, but if Scott had kept Spacey, the film's better qualities would have been forever tainted. It was the right choice, and really the only choice.
