12 Times Movies Got Video Games Wrong

3. The Doom II Arcade Cabinet...That Doesn't Exist - Grosse Pointe Blank

Grosse Point Blank Doom 2
Buena Vista

This 1997 John Cusack-starring cult classic crime comedy features the inexplicable presence of a Doom II arcade machine...despite the fact that the original Doom games have never been released in arcades.

To be completely fair to the production, the arcade cabinet was authorised by id Software, but the fact that a bespoke arcade cabinet was built for the movie just felt like a provocation to fans who, let's face it, would love a legit arcade version of the game.

Somewhat amusingly, reports did emerge in the years following Grosse Pointe Blank's release that custom-built Doom II arcade cabinets had been popping up in the wild, though nothing official ever came to pass, sadly.
