12 Weirdest Pieces Of Movie Merchandise Ever Created
1. The Harry Potter Nimbus 2000
Believe it or not, that creepy Voldemort doll wasn’t the weirdest
thing to emerge from the tidal wave of Harry Potter merchandise. That honour
goes to the Harry Potter Nimbus 2000, modelled on the quidditch broomstick used
by Harry and friends in the film franchise.
Manufactured by toy giants Mattel (who, given their experience, should really have known better) and marketed to kids, the Nimbus 2000 was battery operated and included ‘magical swooshing sounds’ and a vibrating feature … wait, what?!
Yes, a toy whose young users would’ve presumably sat atop had a vibrating feature. Unsurprisingly, Mattel was inundated with complaints from outraged parents and the company realised they had a big problem on their hands when sex shops in New York’s Times Square started stocking the toy.
Retailers removed it from their shelves and Mattel discontinued production and nowadays those hoping to purchase a Nimbus 2000 are looking ate paying upwards of £100 on eBay or less if you don’t mind it being pre-owned (which you really should).
