13 1990s Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die

But, as good as all these aforementioned movies are, nothing beats Seven.

Arguably the greatest serial killer movie ever made, Seven is a haunting, chilling and relentlessly powerful dive into the abyss that makes for an exceptionally disturbing look at evil and moral decay.

It's incredibly gruesome, yet it's also ridiculously entertaining and never gratuitous since the majority of the violence is off-screen, so it can easily be enjoyed by those who don't like horror as well as genre fans.

It's got terrific performances and one of cinema's greatest climaxes orchestrated by one of cinema's greatest psychopaths. Additionally, its visually flawless direction marked the true arrival of David Fincher; after the misfortune he endured with Alien 3, Fincher revealed himself as one of the modern era's smartest and most brilliant directors. Seven is possibly his best film too.

In general, Seven is a near-perfect movie that delivers awe-inspiring, goosebump-inducing set-pieces, brilliant character moments, genius twists and an astonishing amount of pathos. As dark and disturbing as Seven is, thanks to how powerful and thrilling the story is it will ultimately leave you feeling alive. It's easily the best horror film of the 1990s.
