13 1990s Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die

5. Scream

Cure Film
Dimension Films

One of the most important and influential horror films of the 1990s, this one is a movie so good it basically revived the horror genre, which was considered pretty much dead before this came along.

A self-referential, meta and wacky slasher-satire that mixes a highly suspenseful slasher plot (complete with one of the all-time great horror movie twists), effective dark comedy and brilliant film references together into one devilishly entertaining horror-comedy thrill ride, Scream is an absolute delight in every way.

Although its meta humour is inevitably a bit dated now (since so many other films have imitated it) Scream still holds up extremely well and while many other horror comedies have tried to be as good as this, they've rarely succeeded.
