13 Broken Comic Book Movie Franchises (And How To Fix Them)
2. Green Lantern
It is easy to surmise that we probably aren't going to see another solo Green Lantern outing for a very long time, unless he is miraculously the breakout character in JLA and Kevin Smith's theory that solo spin-offs are DC's over-riding plan, but even then priority will surely be given to the Bat, Supes or Wonder Woman. Having said that, this all depends on how these Snyder-verse films are received: Dawn Of Justice will no doubt make its money back on the basis of public curiosity alone, but if it gets a bad buzz and under-performs then this will have a direct impact on how the rest of the DCCU unfolds. It would be too late to halt JLA, but if that film doesn't manage to change general opinion then the Justice League property would find itself back at square one again and characters like the Lantern could either be buried even further or be looked at for ways to try and revitalise DC. Green Lantern could be a fitting choice for this task as he offers more diverse possibilities than even Batman, and a new film version could be easily distanced from the Hal Jordan version by using Guy Gardner, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner or even Alan Scott. The most likely scenario is that we will get a Lantern-centric film, but that it will be under the banner of JLA, perhaps as one of the first solo spin-offs; but what seems inevitable is that if they go the route of the JLA fighting a galactic threat, say Darkseid, then you can guarantee Green Lantern will be front and centre.
As well as the odd article, I apply my "special mind" to scriptwriting for Comics, Films and Games... Oh and I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flow'rs, I put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars.
