13 Broken Comic Book Movie Franchises (And How To Fix Them)

10. Ghost Rider

Unfortunately the reputation of Ghost Rider has been so badly damaged by the two adaptations thus far that it is difficult to see how it can be resurrected cinematically, at least at this stage, even though Marvel now thankfully own the rights again, and will presumably ban anyone from even starting to say Nic Cage in relation to it ever again. One solution would be to integrate the Rider as a supporting character into another property either in film or TV and remove the pressure of being the lead, much as Marvel did with The Hulk, who had been largely written off as a bankable property. If the character is well executed in that initial appearance, there is no telling what kind of new life the property could take on, and with Ghost Rider there is a chance to reinvigorate a character who is familiar to the general public but in a way which does justice to the existing material and the character's position in the Marvel Universe. Like with Green Lantern it is difficult to see another stand-alone Ghost Rider film any time soon, but as mentioned, the Rider is another character whose rights recently reverted to Marvel, so the potential for him eventually being re-imagined as either a supporting character in another property or with his own film is greater than it was post-Spirit Of Vengeance. A likely destination for his re-introduction could be as part of The Defenders, but of course it's important to remember that the character depends on significant CGI, making him an expensive prospect no matter how Marvel decide to re-employ him, which could limit the opportunities for him to appear in more risky films.
