13 Incredibly Stupid Moments From Superman Movies

6. Slapstick Central - Superman III

Super Snap As if making Richard Pryor unfunny wasn't enough, Superman III starts with the most ludicrous opening sequence in the history of comic book movies, which sets out the movie's intentions early on. The sequence, which starts low with a man carelessly walking into a lamp-post when distracted by the voluptuous beauty of Pamela Stephenson, and then kicks off at a canter into an extended slapstick sequence that feels more like a Marx Brothers bit than a Superman movie. The highlight - or the lowlight more appropriately- is undoubtedly the blind man who confuses a road marker for his guide dog (which is so untrained it chases after another dog, so perhaps he'd be better off with his accidental choice of guide,) and then knocks a man down a roadworks hole. You actually couldn't make it up. Eventually, the mess breaks out into outright crime as a bank robber appears from nowhere and causes a car crash, which somehow leads to a car, presumably with a giant hole in the bottom for the driver's feet, filling with water from an overturned water hydrant. Naturally Superman intervenes, but not before he changes from Clark Kent into Supes in a photobooth, in full view of a child, and then confiscates the incriminating snaps, ignoring the fact that the child will probably remember the guy who ran into the photobooth and turned into Superman without pictorial evidence (or at least that his only disguise was a pair of glasses.) It's zany. It's madcap. And it's awful...
