13 Long-Delayed Film Projects We Wish Would Get Made Already

8. Triple Frontier

Originally Announced: December 2010 Status: According to producer Charles Roven in an interview with The Playlist last summer, "that's been put on the backburner." Plot Details: A thriller that takes place on the border zone between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay, an area that's known for its abundance of organized drug-related crime. Why Has It Been Delayed? Budget and casting issues. Triple Frontier was to be director Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to her award-winning 2009 film The Hurt Locker. The project was set up at Paramount, Tom Hanks was attached to star, and shooting was expected to begin in March 2011. Unfortunately, when the producers demanded an $80 million budget, Paramount balked, especially when Bigelow refused to cast Will Smith in the other leading role. A number of other actors were subsequently rumored to be circling the part Paramount wanted Smith to play, but it seems the director could never quite see eye-to-eye with the studio. She, along with screenwriter Mark Boal, moved on to Zero Dark Thirty and the rest is history. It would be nice to see Bigelow tackle the project at some point, but it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.
