13 Upcoming Movie Sequels Nobody Asked For
10. Beyond Skyline
Release Date: TBA
Don't feel bad if you don't even remember the critically-panned 2010 sci-fi flick Skyline, because it was the unfortunate double-whammy of bad and boring, yet made an impressive $78.6 million at the box office against an approximate $15 million budget.
At least five years after anyone, even fans of the original, stopped caring, Beyond Skyline is in some stage of post-production, having started shooting in late 2014 and presumably wrapped at least two years ago.
The narrative will reportedly take place at the same time as the original alien invasion, but shifts the action to Indonesia where a tough detective (Frank Grillo) is looking to rescue his son from a spaceship.
Could It Be Any Good?: Though the likes of Grillo and martial artist Iko Uwais do present some promise (especially if The Raid star kicks some aliens in the face), the sequel is being directed by the original film's writer-producer Liam O'Donnell in his directorial debut, which is always a risk.
How often do sequels surpass the original, especially when it's a first-timer at the helm? Granted, the bar is basically set on the floor with how rancid the original was, but given the continuous delays in getting the movie to cinemas, don't be shocked if it's somehow even worse.
