14 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The DCEU
5. This Isn't Your Childhood Batman & Superman
One of the chief complaints about the DCEU so far is that they've taken iconic characters and changed them in such fundamental ways that they no longer resemble the versions fans grew up with, either in comics or on TV and in film.
Case in point, Superman kills Zod at the end of Man of Steel, which many felt was at odds with the nature of the character, while Batman mercilessly executes bad guys in Batman v Superman despite classically having a strict no-kill policy. Both of these creative choices outraged fans no matter Zack Snyder's attempts to rationalise them.
While it's refreshing to see filmmakers challenge long-held character traits and attempt to place these heroes firmly in the real world where black-and-white morality doesn't make much sense, it means that if fans want to have a good time moving forward, they should probably make peace with the idea that their childhood Batman and Superman are long gone.
That's not to say the criticisms are invalid, but simply that this is Warner's prerogative moving forward, and even as they attempt to lighten the tone with Justice League, the interpretations of these heroes are going to probably differ substantially from what you know and love.
You can whine about it or accept that part of the beauty of the comic world is that different creative people can imprint their own interpretation on iconic characters.
