Countless e-mails have been unearthed which discuss the future of Sony's rights to the Spider-Man franchise, crucial given the disappointing critical and commercial reception to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earlier this year. The most shocking revelation about Spidey is that Sony and Marvel Studios were in talks for some time about Sony lending the web-slinger to Marvel for use in Captain America: Civil War, considering how integral to the plot he is (caught between Iron Man and Cap). Talks broke down, however, and other e-mails have hinted at Andrew Garfield being replaced as Peter Parker (he's on poor terms with Sony), while it's also been suggested that an animated Spidey movie is in the works, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) producing. Finally, there has also been much discussion about straight-up rebooting Spider-Man once again, though producer Jeff Robinov smartly agreed with most fans that retelling the iconic origin story for a third time in a 15-year period would be a terrible idea. Fans should know for sure what Sony have settled on in January's "Spidey Summit".
