15 Best Movie Deaths Of 2016

10. The Nice Guys – Splattered Guy

Greasy Strangler
Warner Bros.

Starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe as a pair of mismatched private detectives on a case centring upon 1970s Los Angeles’ sleazy porn scene, comedy-noir crime thriller The Nice Guys is director Shane Black at his best. Crammed with as much slapstick violence as it is one liners, the film’s best death scene sees a henchman played by The Thing actor Keith David, credited simply as ‘Older Guy’, get his comeuppance.

Gosling’s constantly drunk PI is fighting on a hotel rooftop with the villain when they both topple of the edge, resulting in Older Guy splattered like a melon in a puddle of his own blood by the hotel poolside. What makes the scene even funnier though is that Gosling’s character survives the fall by strategically - or rather by sheer luck – landing in the pool and avoiding getting splattered too. It’s a scene that’s funny and gross at the same time and typical of Black’s trademark dark humour.
