3. Casting JonBenet

The Plot: An experimental documentary re-examining the unsolved 1996 murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey.

This is a truly remarkable and unique way to pore over a well-trod case, by examining the casting process for a potential film based on the events of that fateful night.

As the casting process for all the major players takes place, the auditioning actors, all local to the area of the murder, offer their own insights into what they think happened, and it's deliriously, hauntingly odd.

With such a gimmicky premise, Casting JonBenet could easily have given way to its lesser instincts, but thanks to the transfixing interviewees, it manages to become a perversely compelling, often disturbing look at the public fascination with high-profile murder cases.

Alongside Chasing Coral, this is a gorgeously-shot doc that's unexpectedly cinematic and finds value in once again crowbarring open one of the most infamous murder cases in recent American history.
