They don't make 'em like this anymore, this grand old Musical from yesteryear that just happens to be a modern day gem. Paying homage and borrowing from the brightest and best from Hollywood's grandest Musicals, La La Land throws in a touch of modern day angst among the extravagant song and dance numbers that makes you wish for the good old days even more.

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling give it their all, with their charm and overall strong presence making up for their limited repertoire in the arts of the Musical. The lead pair have great chemistry as struggling Jazz singer Sebastien and aspiring actress Mia, with the sparks flying from their very first meeting. The opening song and dance routine on a crowded highway is the standout, the delirious joy of being stuck in heavy traffic something we can all currently relate to. The use of bright colours combined with the energy and enthusiasm throughout each musical number makes for a wonderful journey throughout.

The finale is quite bittersweet, a beautiful montage that effectively embraces all of Hollywood's great moments into one glorious sequence, before letting the audience know that it's all a lie. The potential perfect couple go their separate ways, no doubt stuck in Isolation thinking of the one that got away.
