15 Best Scientists In The MCU
9. Erik Selvig/ Jane Foster
Erik Selvig and Jane Foster are among the sharpest minds Marvel has ever brought to screen. As the world's foremost astrophysicists, Selvig and Foster's work has deepened the understanding of the cosmos in the MCU. When we are first introduced to the pair, they are following Jane's theory on Einstein-Rosen Bridges, or wormholes if you want to be less formal.
Both Selvig and Foster each have special relationships with Infinity Stones. After the events of Thor, Selvig is recruited by Nick Fury to study the Tesseract for Project Pegasus. His proximity to the cube and his knowledge of its properties made him a target for Loki's mind control. Even in this compromised state, Selvig managed to include a way to shut down the portal created by the Tesseract.
Jane's studies of abnormalities in gravity and space led her to the Aether, otherwise known as the Reality Stone. The stone was hidden for thousands of years following the war against the Dark Elves with the intent of never being discovered again, so to be the one to find it is impressive to say the least.
Their know-how also persevered under the most extreme pressure. Even after being affected by Infinity Stones, Selvig and Foster used teleportation devices that helped Thor defeat Malekith and save the nine realms.
We haven't seen Erik Selvig since Age of Ultron and it has been even longer since Jane Foster made an appearance. Who knows if we will see either one in the MCU again, but we don't need to see anymore to know their brilliance and resolve.
