15 Biggest MonsterVerse Mistakes (So Far)
1. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters - Dr. Emma Russell
This character has barely been mentioned throughout this list; that's because Dr Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) is such a horrifically awful character she deserves a spot to herself.
Emma Russell is the ex-wife of Kyle Chandler's protagonist and mother to secondary protagonist Madison (Millie Bobbie Brown); her other child died in the battle of San Francisco, which was seen in the film's predecessor.
Early on, the film reveals that she's actually working with a group of eco-terrorists who are releasing the world's various giant monsters in order to restore balance to the eco-system.
Err... how exactly does releasing a group of terrifying monsters who are going to kill millions and half destroy the planet do any good? Why would she happily release these creatures when her own son died thanks to one of them? How could she not realize that this would put her daughter in danger?
You cannot be this stupid.
But then, just when you think it can't get any worse, she eventually gets cold feet and the film makes an effort to make her the good guy again and gives her a heroic sacrificial death, even though she's got millions of people killed by this point.
This ghastly twist-villain is not only the worst thing in this franchise, but she's arguably one of the worst characters in sci-fi movie history. Let's just hope the Monster-Verse never gives us anything this awful again.
