15 Films Critics Got Right (But Audiences Got Wrong)

1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice Ben Affleck Henry Cavill
Lucasfilm

Rotten Tomatoes: 91% (Average rating: 8.1, but 46% audience score)

IMDb: 7.3

A controversial choice, but yes, critics got Star Wars: The Last Jedi right while fans didn't. This isn't because critics liked it, but because they actually reviewed the movie.

They didn't nit-pick things to death. They understood that a movie is not irredeemably awful just because of a few writing mistakes. They didn't act as if things such as too much progressiveness and too many female characters are actually legitimate criticisms of a movie.

Most of all, they weren't tearing the film apart just because of continuity errors, or certain characters being different, or fan theories being ignored. They remembered that it's only a f**king movie.

The debate about TLJ has been so tiresome because the criticisms are so ridiculously unfair. For example, lots of films are adored for having plot twists so why is TLJ having a few twists suddenly such a terrible thing?

Aside from a couple of issues, such as too many plot holes, TLJ, with its superb visuals, powerful story, painfully suspenseful plot and terrific acting, is actually great. Whatever you think of it as an artistic piece, it is a harmless blockbuster and the fact that the increasingly toxic Star Wars fandom has treated everyone involved with the film so horribly makes you want to abandon the internet for good.

In other words, this is the epitome of a film that critics judged fairly while audiences got it completely wrong.
