This movie is all Patrick Swayze all the time. He is in almost every scene. It all hinges on him being as charming as possible and Swayze does not disappoint on that front. He is a proper 80s movie hero with more shirtless scenes than necessary and a hair style that is so close to being a mullet. Today this would be a direct to dvd movie quality of storytelling. The strongest trait about this movie, other than Swayze, is that it knows what it is, with such a silly premise, and does not try to be more than that. Everyone in the various bar scenes are ready to start a brawl at the drop of a hat and all we need to know is who the bad guys are. Surprisingly, in a choice that makes little sense, there is not that much gunplay. Everyone seems to agree that hand-to-hand combat is the proper way to settle things. The only let down is the primary villain in Ben Gazzara. He is doing his best but hes a bit too old to be a real threat to Swayzes Dalton. Action movies today are almost always PG-13 to appeal to the widest audiences but the 80s was a different time. Road House was made during the time when action movies could be enjoyably R-rated. I would recommend watching this all the way through too. Best line: "Pain don't hurt." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ikfz-S6Tjo
