15 Greatest Opening Credit Sequences In Movies

10. Zombieland

Zombieland came out in 2009 and gave audiences a wonderfully funny take on the zombie/apocalypse genre. With a stellar cast led by Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg, it perfectly balances humour, extreme violence and intelligence into a film with a fairly typical and yet somehow fresh story.

The opening sequence plays over Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and features a vast array of stills depicting zombies, people being killed and eaten, and some hilarious images of violence. At one point, a bride goes in to bite her groom; another moment sees a guy with a "The End is Nigh" sign being devoured.

It's a great opening sequence in its own right, but also proves to be a solid spoof of the zombie genre, in which films often adopt the song-over-a-montage approach (more on this later). But thanks to the song choice and the stylish, funny nature of the images we get to see, Zombieland stands above most of the rest of the pack when it comes to showing the audience what they're in store for.
