15 Most Anti-Climactic Movie Showdowns
1. Batman Vs. Superman - Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice
The Showdown: At the behest of Lex Luthor's (Jesse Eisenberg) Machiavellian scheming, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) meet up at an abandoned warehouse to beat the snot out of each other.
The Anti-Climax: On the surface, this has so much going for it: two fine actors, gorgeous visuals and the potential for Zack Snyder to make the most of his over-the-top stylistic flair, and for about five minutes it's even a pretty engaging, fun fight...if you can forget it could all be solved with a quick conversation.
Anyway, it all falls apart when Batman is about to stab Superman with the Kryptonite Spear and finish him off for good, but Supes manages to mouth "Martha", which freaks Batman out as, of course, the pair's mothers have the same name, and promptly brings the fight to an end.
While the idea here is that this causes Batman to realise that Superman has a mother and isn't just some amorphous alien creature without his own family, it's clumsily handled and brings the single fight to a shoulder shrug of a conclusion.
Considering that most fans were expecting at least two fights in the movie (with them likely winning one a-piece), this just felt weirdly low-effort for something so important and potentially iconic.
