15 Most Exciting Movies Coming In February 2020

1. Dark Waters - February 28

The most anticipated film of February is a picture that's surprisingly went mostly under the radar in the United States and during the entirety of awards season.

This is especially shocking due to the critical acclaim it's received, the presence of the beloved Mark Ruffalo in the leading role and visionary filmmaker Todd Haynes in the director's chair. It seems like the majority of Haynes' work is better appreciated in hindsight, but don't make the mistake that audiences in the US did and seek this out in theatres if you get the chance.

The depressing subject matter, focusing on the investigation into DuPont’s chemical poisoning, doesn’t exactly make for a crowd pleaser and the descriptions of Ruffalo's character's suffering in the search for accountability is harrowing to even read about, let alone watch.

Why Dark Waters above everything else though? The answer is simple, it seems like the film most important to the world, both from a filmmaking and a political standpoint. It feels like the kind of work that needs to exist, especially since it hurts.

Even if you aren’t looking for a critical examination of American capitalism’s incarnate cruelty and nastiness, this is a Mark-Ruffalo-on-a-search-for-the-truth film, making it essential viewing for anyone who loves insight into process. Mainly, it comes across as a film that actually gives a damn about its audience, about the subjects it’s fighting for. That’s unspeakably beautiful to me now.
