Spring Breakers 2012

Best known for shock tactic filled, youth-focused films like Kids and Gummo, Harmony Korine’s 2013 crime drama Spring Breakers was a return to form for the controversial director, though with the addition of four scantily-clad young starlets, a much more mainstream and marketable movie than his previous efforts.

Focusing on a quartet of female college students as they embark on a week of drunken, drug-fuelled debauchery and descend into Florida’s criminal underworld via drug dealer Alien (James Franco), Spring Breakers has been lauded as a potential cult classic by some enthusiastic critics, but though it clearly wants to be a satirical art film, it actually comes off more as Girls Gone Wild with guns set to a dubstep soundtrack.

On the upside, it’s a rare opportunity to see James Franco getting rather hot and bothered whilst performing fellatio on the barrel of a gun … if that’s the kind of thing that boils your kettle.
