Professor Charles Xavier - more colloquially known as Professor X - has been played by both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy in his older and younger days (as well as briefly by Laurence Belcher as a child). He has appeared in some capacity in all seven of the X-Men movies to date. A powerful telepath, Xavier is wheelchair-bound and has no superhuman physical attributes at all. However, such is the power of his mind that he is one of the most formidable mutants in the world. He can read people's minds, find information in other people's heads - including unlocking memories that had been forgotten - he can communicate telepathically with others, he can mentally detect people, he can effectively make people seem invisible by altering the perception of others, he mind-control people (hundreds if not thousands at a time, should he wish - and to the extent that it appears as though time has stopped for them), he can mentally sedate people, he can erase people's memories, he can put up psychic barriers (such as the one that prevented Jean Grey from unlocking her full potential), he is the only individual capable of using Cerebro (and it gave him the ability to kill anyone in the world with a psychic blast, if he so wished), he can alter memories and he can transfer his consciousness into other bodies.
