15 Most Shocking Moments In Found Footage Movies
6. Sibling Rivalry - The Sacrament
Ti West has spent his entire career making overlooked horror gems, but The Sacrament is perhaps the most tragically underrated film in the director's oeuvre. Taking inspiration from real life events like Jonestown, the movie's tale of an extreme religious cult isn't entirely original, but the way West presents it through the perspective of a documentary team given exclusive access to their enigmatic leader hits a little too close to home.
While things escalate to a ridiculous degree in the final act, with mass suicides, murders and torturing all happening in the name of religion, it's actually the intimate killing of a brother at the hands of his sister that ends up being the most shocking part of the movie.
Indoctrinated and living with the cult for too long, in one unbroken take the sister injects her sibling Patrick with poison that takes an uncomfortably long time to kick in, while he can do nothing but ineffectively plead for mercy. There's no gore, but the intimate, unflinching way the death is shot, as well as the performances between the two siblings, makes for one of the most uncomfortable cinematic murders in film history.
