15 Most Underrated Movies Of 2016
10. Don’t Think Twice
Another Keegan Michael-Key movie that went largely under the
radar this year, Don’t Think Twice is a comedy-drama about the hardships of
working on New York City’s comedy circuit. Directed by comedian and actor Mike
Birbiglia, who also stars in the film and obviously brings a tonne of
real-world experience to its subject matter, the film focuses on a comedy
improv troupe and how they are affected when one of them finds success and
fame.
Despite a strong opening weekend and playing to sold-out cinemas, Don’t Think Twice is another film that’s been largely overshadowed by bigger name blockbusters like Suicide Squad and Star Trek Beyond. Birbiglia seemed to partly blame this on the film being assigned an R-rating by the MPAA for having a couple of F-bombs and a bit of pot smoking and quite rightly pointed out the unfairness of it compared to films like Suicide Squad that feature plenty of violence but only get a PG-13 rating. A just enough statement considering there’s so much more to the hilarious yet heartbreakingly honest film than just those handful of barely offensive moments. So, if it was indeed F-bombs and the devil’s lettuce that put you off watching Don’t Think Twice you should definitely give it a chance.
