The Buzz: Mike Leigh's biopic of controversial British artist J.M.W. Turner went down a storm at Cannes this year, with Timothy Spall winning the fest's Best Actor award for his central performance as Turner. Oscar Predictions: It's an outside contender for sure, but Best Picture is a distinct possibility, Best Actor is largely considered a lock, Leigh has been nominated for his screenplays five times before, so Best Original Screenplay is likely, as are Best Cinematography and crafts categories such as Best Costume Design , Best Hair & Makeup and Best Production Design. As for wins? Prospects are pretty meagre: Costume Design is probably the safest bet so far. Release Date: October 31st (UK), December 19th (US)
