15 Problems Nobody Wants To Admit About 2015's Biggest Movies

5. Steve Jobs Would Probably Be Better With David Fincher Directing

A Steve Jobs biopic starring Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet, and Jeff Daniels, while directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin. It sounds like a dream, right? It's certainly already got Oscar buzz swirling around it despite the fact it won't start screening anywhere for many months, but even so, it's tough not to think about the various more promising iterations the project has had over the years. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale were both locked in for the lead role at various points (no discredit to Fassbender, who is a fantastic performer in his own right), but most compelling is the fact that David Fincher was originally in line to direct the movie before bailing last year amid contract disputes. As great a director as Boyle is, Fincher is much better-suited for dialogue-driven material such as this: Boyle is a more frenetic, stylistic filmmaker, whereas Fincher has the ability to turn wars of words into cinematic masterpieces, as evidenced no better than his work in The Social Network (which was also written by Sorkin). Boyle will likely do a great job, but a masterpiece would be much more likely in Fincher's hands.
