15 Problems Only Film Fans In 2016 Would Understand
11. Ben Affleck Is Great In Four Bad Movies
Poor Ben Affleck.
Affleck hasn't appeared in a single critically-acclaimed movie this year, all the more distressing as all four of them were widely anticipated by fans and awards pundits, and Affleck himself was great in all of them.
Firstly, Batman v Superman scored a grim 27% on Rotten Tomatoes, then Suicide Squad (which he had a cameo in) scooped 26%. Regardless, his performance as Batman was singled out as one of the best things in both films.
Fans were sure he'd rebound with thriller The Accountant, and while he gave a nuanced turn, it scored a mixed 52% with critics.
Finally, there's the awards season release Live by Night, which was widely expected to be a big player at the Oscars, but is currently sitting at around the 35-40% mark with reviews still pouring in. Again, his work in front of the camera earned solid notices.
At least Affleck acquitted himself well in each part and won't be blamed for their failure (except Live by Night, as he also wrote and directed it). Considering the brilliant years he's had recently, hopefully this is just a patch of bad luck.
