Jared Leto gave a terrifically unsettling performance in Blade Runner 2049 as the Wallace Corporation's doggedly driven CEO Niander Wallace, but before the part went to the actor, director Denis Villeneuve originally envisioned it for the late David Bowie. Unfortunately, time had other plans.

Villeneuve said of casting Wallace, "Our first thought [for the character] had been David Bowie, who had influenced ‘Blade Runner’ in many ways...When we learned the sad news, we looked around for someone like that."

Leto was certainly a fine replacement, though it would've been nothing short of fascinating to see what Bowie, whose diverting screen presence made him a natural cinematic oddball, would've brought to the table.
