15 Upcoming Horror Films You Should Be Excited About
5. Krampus (December 4)
Director Michael Dougherty was responsible for one of the greatest holiday themed horror films of all time, Trick 'r Treat, and he's at it again with this new Christmas horror tale scheduled to be released this December.
The film is about Krampus, a terrifying horned demon who in Germanic Christian folklore is considered to be the opposite of Santa Claus. During Christmastime, Krampus punishes any child who misbehaves, except his punishments are a little more severe than just coal.
The movie will follow a young boy struggling to get into the Christmas season due to family infighting, but the family has to work together to survive when Krampus comes for them. That premise already sounds amazing, and it's been a while since there's been a great Christmas horror film. There's Black Christmas, Silent Night, and Jack Frost, but nothing really on par with that in the past decade. Krampus should be a great addition to that subgenre.
It's said to have a similar style to Trick 'r Treat, doing for Christmas what that movie did for Halloween. The cast is fantastic as well, featuring Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Allison Tolman and David Koechner. It hits theaters just in time for the holidays this December.
