11. Knight Of Cups
Terrence Malick is considered a living legend, and when a director’s CV consists of Badlands, Days Of Heaven and The Thin Red Line, it has every right to humblebrag. Since he’s become way more prolific in the last decade the legend tag has loosened slightly, thanks to the underwhelmed reactions to The New World and To The Wonder.
Knight Of Cups does little to help that slide, playing like a bizarre crossover between Malick-style arthouse fare, and an episode of Entourage. If that mixture sounds like something that should never, ever happen, you’d be on point. It’s a ponderous affair, full of philosophical musings that rarely add up to much, though it’s certainly spicy than the usual Malick joint.
If you’re a long-time fan, or you want to know what an arty Entourage looks like, then it’s worth a shot.
