15 Worst Performances In 2016 Films (So Far)
5. Theo James - The Divergent Series: Allegiant
When you think about the numerous teen novel adaptations that have flooded cinema screens in recent years, the very least that most people can tell you about them is the name of the male lead. Everyone knows who Edward Cullen is, whether they like to admit it or not, though ask a member of the general public to name the guy from the Divergent series and they'll likely draw a blank.
The handling of Veronica Roth's famous-thanks-to-Hunger-Games novels has been substandard from the first movie in the series and only got worse when the actors refused to grow into their roles. Allegiant, the third though unbelievably not the last film in this below-par dystopian farce, is full of wooden performances from actors who don't look as though they believe that the material is worth their best efforts.
While female lead Shailene Woodley at least seemed to increase in confidence over the course of the first three films, her opposite number Theo James has turned in a trio of mundane performances, with his turn as Four in Allegiant the most forgettable yet. The scriptwriters have come in for some heavy criticism here, though with stars as uncharasmairc as these they are fighting a losing battle from the start.
