18 More Things You Didn't Know About The Terminator

7. The Christian Symbolism

When a character in any medium is depicted as the saviour of mankind, it's easy to compare them to Jesus Christ. Superman. Neo. Robocop. (That's not a joke. Robocop is literally based on JC. Look it up.) However, John Connor has so many similarities to the son of god, it crazy that you never noticed them sooner.

First off, they have the same initials. Secondly, Kyle Reese's mission is similar to the Biblical archangel, Gabriel. He was chosen to inform a woman that she would give birth to a messiah. The woman then had to flee when she learned there was an evil being trying to slaughter her unborn child. Some viewers believe the scars on Kyle Reese's back represent wings to highlight this angelic metaphor.

Furthermore, both women fall pregnant through unconventional means. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. Sarah Connor was impregnated by a time-traveller, unaware he was sent to the past by his own son. The fact the Terminator keeps returning from the dead could also serve as a metaphor for Jesus' resurrection. It may sound farfetched at first but both stories have a lot in common... except one of them has robots.
