3. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Disappoints At The Box Office

It's fair to say that, after Spider-Man 3 scored a huge $890 million at the box office, Sony probably weren't expecting their reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, to match those figures, what with the growing pains of a new take and a different actor playing Peter Parker. Still, the reboot made a solid $757 million, ensuring that audiences were mostly cool with Andrew Garfield's casting and the new tone, while of course, Sony expected that the sequel would surely build on that success. However, coming along with the worst reviews of the series, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also posted a box office low for the series of $708 million, a figure that shouldn't be sniffed at, though was undeniably disappointing to Sony, who were no doubt expecting $800-900 million. This underwhelming box office haul has resulted in Sony delaying The Amazing Spider-Man 3 from 2016 to 2018 while they attempt to regroup, and according to the hacked Sony e-mails, the studio is considering both rebooting Spidey once again and also loaning him out to Marvel Studios for use in the MCU.
