18 Upcoming Villains Who Will Be More Interesting Than The Heroes

11. Baron Mordo - Doctor Strange

Baron Mordo
Marvel Comics

The Hero: As arrogant as he is gifted, Dr. Stephen Strange is a surgeon who loses the use of his hands and turns to magic as a means to compensate.

The Villain: The original student of Strange’s teacher, Karl Mordo does not take kindly to being replaced, especially as he is in the midst of trying to steal his master’s power.

Why The Villain Will Be More Interesting: Benedict Cumberbatch playing a brilliant yet arrogant man may be satisfying, but having seen Sherlock, it’s nothing new. On top of that, the arc of a superhero during their first movie almost always falls prey to traditional plot beats and developments.

Conversely, there’s Baron Mordo to consider. In the comics, he’s often little more than a jealous henchman for the more-powerful entity Dormammu. He could still fulfill that role in the film but with Chiwetel Ejiofor involved, and rumours that the character has been somewhat transformed, suggest that this will be a very well-developed character.

If Mordo is made more heroic, possibly with questionably loyalties, it will undoubtably add another layer of intrigue to the character, one that could be missing from Strange.
