18 Upcoming Villains Who Will Be More Interesting Than The Heroes
10. Tom Hardy - The Revenant
The Hero: A near-silent Leonardo Dicaprio plays Hugh Glass, a real-life frontiersman who is betrayed and left behind by his own men.
The Villain: Presumably his closest mutineer, Tom Hardy’s unnamed hunter is the one who will betray Leo and leave him for dead in the wilderness.
Why The Villain Will Be More Interesting: This movie is going to be all about Leo. It’s likely he’ll occupy the majority of the screen time and it’s rumoured that he barely speaks in the film. It’s quite possible that this could be the role that finally gets him an Oscar. But in a movie that spends its entirety following a hero chasing a villain down for revenge, every second spent hunting Hardy means another moment of hype for the villain.
It’s entirely possible that we see very little of Hardy in the film. But seeing the hell that Leo goes through just to get to him, it characterizes him even when he’s not on screen. When he does finally appear, the role’s already built itself up that Hardy will have to do little to make his hunter stand out.
