20 Awesome Horror Movies That Never Got Sequels

3. The Invitation

2015's The Invitation is a horror film that absolutely deserves more respect on its name, director Karyn Kusama mining its strange, unsettling setup for maximum unease, centered around a man (Logan Marshall-Green) who is invited to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife.

The film's brilliant ending reveals that the night's worth of murder and mayhem isn't localised to this single party, and other cult members are carrying out their own violent plans throughout Los Angeles.

All hell has broken loose basically, the full scale of which remains ambiguous as the end credits roll, but it certainly provides a tantalising tease for an absolutely unhinged sequel that probably becomes The Purge.

The Invitation 2 never happened, though, likely due to this film's lack of commercial success and also because its elliptical ending is actually perfect in its own way.

After all, it's unlikely that a sequel could ever live up to the insane scenarios audiences have imagined for themselves after seeing that ending.
