16. The Firefly Family - House of 1000 Corpses
Though Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses certainly has its cult of loyal fans who celebrate it as a work of vulgar auteurism, it's pretty tough going for everyone else - a messy, aesthetically unpleasant, even confusing experience which feels like warmed-over off-cuts from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
But it did at least introduce the world to the Firefly Family - the deranged clan of serial killers who spend the movie brutalising just about anyone they cross paths with.
The performances from Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding, Bill Moseley as Otis, and Sheri Moon Zombie as Baby Firefly were strong enough to just-about triumph over the ropey material, before getting their full due in the vastly superior sequel The Devil's Rejects.
The sequel rather smartly delves deeper into the trio as characters, fashioning them as villain protagonists who the audience might well end up warming to somewhat - just enough that when they seemingly perish in a police shootout at the end, you actually care.
But of course they didn't really die, as was revealed in belated threequel 3 from Hell.
