7. The Shallows

With the glut of mostly terrible shark horror movies released lately (cough cough, Sharknado), no doubt many moviegoers let out a collective groan at the announcement of yet another stalker shark film. But then to everyone’s surprise The Shallows, starring a bikini-clad Blake Lively as a surfer girl stranded in shark-infested waters, turned out to be a pretty good movie with some genuine thrills and tension.

Sony’s Blu-ray release gets into the nitty-gritty of making a film whose antagonist is a shark including featurettes that give an inside look into the creation of the movie’s CGI and puppet shark and the realities of filming in water on location. Deleted scenes and a segment on scouting for the movie’s gorgeous location are included too and perhaps most usefully an educational featurette with handy advice from experts and survivors themselves on how to survive your very own shark attack.
