20 Best Movie Blu-Rays Of 2016

13. Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Edition

Labyrinth Blu-ray
Tri-Star Pictures

This year we sadly lost one of music’s most iconic stars: the Thin White Duke himself, David Bowie. Beyond being a musical legend Bowie also carved out a prolific acting career making his first major appearance in the 1976 sci-fi drama The Man Who Fell to Earth and scooping a Saturn Award for Best Actor for his efforts, and his final appearance in 2009’s Bandslam. If you were a kid in the ‘80s however, it’s probably his performance as Jareth the Goblin King in Jim Henson’s fantasy film Labyrinth that most springs to mind. Coincidentally, 2016 is also the 30th anniversary of the release of the kids’ cult classic and what better way to remember both the film and its star than with a special anniversary edition Blu-ray?

There’s a few featurettes that are bound to get ‘80s kids feeling misty-eyed and nostalgic, including ‘The Henson Legacy’ which looks back at the amazing puppetry of the late Jim Henson and ‘The Goblin King’ which features Jennifer Connelly remembering her co-star Bowie. For the true Labyrinth geek, a giftset edition comes with a mirror box model/display case of the movie’s iconic 3D staircase maze scene.
